Veer Bal Diwas Celebrated in December 2022: Manjinder Singh Sirsa’s Efforts in Collaboration with Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee 

Introduction:In last 9 years, PM Narendra Modi Ji has paid great respect to the Sikh Gurus and showed his great faith towards Sikhism in various actions and gestures. It was Modi ji who made the world aware about the supreme martyrdom of Chhote Sahibzaade by dedicating “Veer Bal Diwas” as a national day to commemorate their martyrdom. In December 2022, the Government of India, under the guidance of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), celebrated Veer Bal Diwas, a significant event commemorating the valour and sacrifices of young Sikh warriors. Spearheaded by Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the prominent Sikh leader and member of the DSGMC, the event aimed to honour the bravery of Chhote Sahibzaade. This article focuses on the main themes of the event and highlights the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Significance of Veer Bal Diwas:

Veer Bal Diwas, which translates to “Day of Brave Children,” commemorated the supreme martyrdom of Baba Zoravar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh (age 9 and 6 respectively), the brave sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Through this event, the world would know about the sacrifices made by the ‘Sahibzaade’, the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh who were killed mercilessly by the Mughals at a tender age. This commemoration serves as a reminder of their courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to noble causes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Attendance:

Highlighting the significance of Veer Bal Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the event with his presence. PM Modi participated in a program marking ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi. PM Modi also talked about this day on his twitter –

“On Veer Baal Diwas, we recall the courage of the Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji. We also remember the courage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. At 12:30 PM today will be joining a programme to mark this inspiring day.”

The event featured the ‘Shabad Kirtan’ which was performed by around 300 Baal Kirtanis. The Prime Minister Modi also flagged off a march-past by about three thousand children in Delhi on this momentous occasion.

His attendance not only acknowledged the bravery of the young Sikh warriors but also underscored the government’s commitment to honouring their contributions. The Prime Minister’s participation added a sense of national importance to the event and conveyed the message that the sacrifices made by these brave individuals are deeply valued by the nation as a whole.

“Sahibzaades are inspiring generations. A country that has such history should be filled with confidence but unfortunately, in the name of history we were taught only certain narratives,” said PM Narendra Modi at the event.

It is worth mentioning that On 9th January 2022, the day of the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Prime Minister Modi had announced that 26th December would be observed as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, to mark the martyrdom of sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh – Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.
